LIVE GIG REVIEW:“Above - Bloomsbury Bowling Lanes (5/6/07) “So we're back at the bowling lanes again! Tonight's bands are Above, Playmaker and Dialog as the headliner. After trying to find a decent perch spot for viewing The Above, lead singer Karl briefly introduces himself to myself and Michelle whilst a free CD is also purchased through his hands. All I can say is what a nice decent guy this lead singer is. “Upon entering the stage, The Above can just about be seen over the top of the crowd as it is a full house tonight, with old and new fans alike. As the gig begins, there is something totally distinctive and different about this band, this is because there is a little known term called "uniqueness". Critics often do this as they struggle to adjust to what music is available to them at the time, The Above would blow all these critics away with one big blast. “The Above have an amazing sound to listen to, the riffs are funky, the lyrics are something you can relate to and above all something for everyone to enjoy. Unlike most frontmen, Karl is different. He uses hand and facial expressions to get the lyrical message across, which is nice because I dont think I've seen any band do this so far. “Some of the songs tonight are far from dull and there definitely is a country side to their musical tone. There were a couple of slow songs and the vast majority were incrediby fast and decent. The Above are one of those bands that you can define as the "friendly open band". This means that lead singer Karl has done very well to leave the stage and share the floor with the audience. “Overall, I was very pleased to hear such a confident band doing what they love to do, which is show the audience a good time. The Above have the potential to go above and beyond.” 9/10* |
